Jaialdi is the biggest Basque event in the U.S. (next one July 2025!) and the Sports Night, where Basque athletes perform amazing feats of strength, is one of the most popular events.
Jaialdi, which means party or festival, takes place every five years in Boise, Idaho. The athletes lift weights (harri jasotzea), including txingas , but also perform rural sports (herri kirolak) that evolved originally from farmhouse chores, like bale lifting and tossing and wood chopping.
