Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 8, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary & Cemetery at 3700 River Boulevard. Her 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 1515 Baker Street, on Wednesday September 9th. Internment at Union Cemetery will immediately follow. Mrs. Laxague was born to her parents, John and Michaela Ermigarat on May 22, 1917, and grew up in Norwalk, CA. She married Pierre “Pete” Laxague on September 3. 1938, and the couple had two children: Marianne J. Laxague and Michel P. Laxague. In 1945, the family moved to Bakersfield, CA and purchased the Kern City Bakery, which became today’s Pyrenees French Bakery, Inc. Mrs. Laxague’s husband Pierre passed away on March 3, 1993, and her son Michel on November 1, 1979. With her daughter Marianne, Mrs. Laxague actively participated in operating the Bakery until she retired in 2007. In addition to her daughter and many other relatives in the United States and Europe, Mrs. Laxague’s family includes two grandsons and their wives and children: Richard and Cheri Laxague, and great-grandchildren Zachary and Alisabeth; and Jean-Charles and Anna, and great-grandchildren, Charles and Sophia. The Laxagues are prominent members of Bakersfield’s large Basque community, and both Mrs. Laxague and her husband were given the distinction of Honorary Membership by the Kern County Basque Club for their many years of service to the Club and the community. Mrs. Laxague’s family thanks the caregivers who so competently, conscientiously, and compassionately assisted Mrs. Laxague during her decline – especially Debbie and Mirtha. In Lieu of flowers, Mrs. Laxague’s family requests that donations be sent to either the Michel P. Laxague Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3626, Bakersfield, CA 93385; or the St. Vincent de Paul Center Project, P.O. Box 3255, Bakersfield, CA 93385.
