If you haven’t done so already, you should begin making hotel reservations for Jaialdi 2010, which will be held in Boise from July 28 to Aug. 1, 2010.

Local hotels report that in recent weeks people have already been booking rooms. About 25,000 festival-goers from Basque communities in the United States, Latin America and the Basque Country are expected to descend on Boise for the week-long celebration of all things Basque. When making reservations, be sure to ask if the hotel is offering a convention rate for Jaialdi.

Jaialdi organizers have created a web page for the convention, where you can check for updates as preparations unfold for the mammoth event. Organizers also have created a Facebook page.

Jaialdi is a word in Euskara, or the Basque language, that refers to a festival of music and dancing. Basque culture will be showcased through dance and musical performances, including performers from the Basque Country, food and educational and cultural exhibits. The event which started in Boise in 1987 has become a regular event, held every five years.

Most of the activities will be held at the sprawling Expo Idaho center, just outside of Boise. Some events will also be held on the Basque block, home to the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, Basque Center and restaurants.
