Nancy Zubiri, Editor
I have been writing about the U.S. Basque community for many years. I retired from teaching English at Venice High School in Los Angeles in 2020, after 21 years. I now dedicate much of my free time to my work as editor of Euskal Kazeta.
I am the author of “Travel Guide to Basque America. “ The second edition of this comprehensive book about the history, communities and festivals of the Basques in the United States was published in 2006.
In 2022, my third book, “Jaialdi: A Celebration of Basque Culture,” with photographs by Jon Hodgson, was published by University of Nevada Press.
I am half-Basque and half-Peruvian, born in San Francisco and residing in Los Angeles. I am very connected to both of my parents’ cultures. I grew up in San Francisco and danced with Zazpiak Bat, the SF Basque Club dance group.
I worked as a journalist for several California newspapers before becoming a teacher. Among them were: Los Angeles Times, Oakland Tribune, Antioch Daily Ledger, Sonoma Index-Tribune.
